Chorlton Refugee Aid

Chorlton Refugee Aid (Care UK) supplies clothes and other essentials to asylum seekers and refugees living in hotels locally or housed across Greater Manchester.

Many asylum seekers and refugees arrive in Manchester with nothing; Chorlton Refugee Aid provides a basic set of suitable clothing, plus a few baby essentials for local new families, and some basic school items for children. Most items are donations from the local community, but Refugee Aid needs some money to provide new underwear, and to make up shortfalls in some areas.

Money is raised through Chorlton Open Gardens, individual donations, and selling donated items in CareUK’s charity shop in Warrington (if unsuitable for asylum seekers); in addition small amounts are received from selling a few donated items online, and through recycling unsuitable clothing and shoes.
